OUR APPROACH TO ETHICS

Ethics are intrinsic to issues of wellbeing and resilience and this is especially true when providing a means of measurement of them. So as a result, we ensure that our measurement techniques are evidenced-based and grounded in science.

LESSONS LEARNED

Cernova has invested over $2 million and 10,000 working hours in our research that is supported buy our ethics strategy.

We’ve developed and market tested a range of research driven concepts and have invited critique and analysis from industry, academia and the scientific community. And whilst consensus is an unrealistic endeavour, we are cognisant of critical review, feedback and lessons learned, some of which include:

Tempering ambition

Ambition should not come at the cost of ethics so we strive for the right balance to constantly second guess how our research and products could be used for unintended purposes with unintended consequences. As result we stress test and invite external feedback before we go to market

No half measures

From day one we resolved the importance of ethics and decided we were all in – no half measures.

Taking a stand on Principles

When we began, the ethical boundaries of how the data we measure could be used wasnt established so we developed a de-identified workforce wide resilience assessment as the standard. If a client elects to assess identified data then we review the data usage policy on a case by case basis. This demonstrated to us that early consideration of potential conflict between ethical principles is essential.

A work in Progress

Great leaps in technology sometimes means that we are playing catch up with the learnings from how it is best applied or used for good. Every day we evolve this maturity and our goal is to maintain parity with likely use cases to ensure we close that loop
